Hazard warning pictograms and their meanings

Toxic Substances

This symbol shows that the substance is toxic if swallowed and should be handled with a great deal of care.

Flammable Substances

This symbol shows that the substance should not be heated, exposed to high temperatures or fire.

Oxidising

The symbol shows the substance is an oxidising agent, which means it is likely to intensify and fuel a fire. Oxidising agents should be securely stored and kept away from heat or fire.

Corrosive Substances

This symbol shows the substance is corrosive and may be harmful to you if you were to come into contact with it.

Explosive

The symbol warns the substance is explosive, therefore it should not be exposed to heat or anything else which may cause it to explode.

Long term health hazard

This new symbols shows that the substance is likely to cause longer term health hazards such as allergy or asthma symptoms and other breathing difficulties if inhaled.
